Design Concepts We Use
While Building Your Website
Novelty
Sustaining attention is the backbone of any well-designed website. As we know, humans crave novelty. The word 'novel' means - 'of a new kind or different from anything seen or known before'. And what is 'new' or 'unknown' demands attention of the brain. Most people ignore anything that is routine, repetitive, predictable, or just plain boring. We strive to make your website different. A novelty! Eye-catching and a step above your competition! We use rich background colors, text positioning, font styles, eye-catching images and witty phrases to make your website captivating!
Contrast
Your brain is wired to pay attention to 'disruptions or changes' such as: before/after, risky/safe, with/without, or fast/slow. Yes. Simply put, the brain pays attention to things that are in contrast to other things! The 'old' brain – the part of the brain that decides – seeks clear contrast in order to make instant decisions and avoid confusion!

An evolutionary trait in humans?

Layout
Studies show that people have strict behavioral patterns while viewing websites. We can't say this for every visitor, but the research is overwhelming. Most users start at the top left of the page. They scan the very top of the site (navigation, subscription, search, etc.) Then they move down, reading the next full row of content...usually all the way to the sidebar. Lastly, visitors start a so-called "scanning pattern" as they reach the bulk of the content.
Emotion
Does this picture make you happy? Did you smile as you looked towards the baby? When you get people to feel something (anything), they not only pay attention to your message (or visual), but they also remember it. Think back to your last 12 months. Which things do you remember the most? Probably the events where you felt the most emotion!
Create emotions in people and you instantly have their attention!
Sequence
A sequential flow makes it much easier for your audience to follow your website and keep their attention! The brain naturally focuses on concepts sequentially one at a time. All in all people are unable to focus on something for more than 10 minutes at a time. We start with a clear introduction to explain what it’s all about, followed with the body of your presentation. We finish with a conclusion and direct your audience to what's next!
Attention
We believe people have an infinite attention span if you entertain them properly. If the content or the way you present it is unprofessional, no attention span trick in the world will work. People are generally capable of a longer attention span when they are doing something they enjoy. Something intrinsically motivating. Your website content should match the interests and/or needs of your customer. It needs to be entertaining and fun. Interesting enough to keep your customer engaged. Everything else is secondary. People don’t pay attention to boring things. Put yourself in your customers shoes and ask “what’s in it for me?”

Examples
Welcome to Marcy's Boutique. We deliver fresh flowers right to your door. For today's specials view our slideshow! “Let me show you what I mean” is one of the best ways to get your point across when trying to explain something. Pictures are a superb way to demonstrate something and to provide answers to the questions your customers brain is asking. As mentioned before, the decision making part of our brain is the “old brain“. The old brain prefers visual stimuli which is processed faster than words and text. This is why you should place visual examples near what you explain in words.
Speed
We make fast websites. Period. A 0.1 second site load gives the visitor a feeling of instantaneous response. During a 1 second load customers sense a delay, but still feel in control of the overall experience. A 2-5 second delay will often make the customer leave your site immediately. But don't worry! Even our 'heaviest' pages load consistently at less than 1 second. A few seconds of delay is enough to create an unpleasant user experience. Instead of focusing on your content, your customer is consciously annoyed by having to wait for your site to load. We test and examine file sizes, load times, and many other details about every single element of every single web page. (HTML, JavaScript and CSS files, images, etc.) We also test from multiple locations to see how fast your website loads in different regions of Canada, the United States, Europe, etc.
